The Bulgarian school was established on the 24th of September in 2006.

The idea of creating a Bulgarian school occured spontaneously among some Bulgarian mothers whose children studied in the same Cypriot school. Their idea was provoked by their concern and efforts to teach their children to preserve and appreciate their Bulgarian roots.

Following the idea that each language reflects the nation's culture, the founders wish to turn the school into an institution that assists and stimulates the Bulgarian community in Cyprus.

By visiting the school among children and their parents a cultural space in formed where they can speak Bulgarian.  That stimulates the process of forming small Bulgarian communities (groups of interests among parents). In that way students and their parents can talk in Bulgarian outside the school as well. These groups act as a barrier against the assimilation of Bulgarian students in a foreign environment.

In February 2008 a foundation (Bulgarian Cultural Center Cyril and Methodius) was established and took over the management of the Bulgarian school in Nicosia.

The teachers are very well qualified and recognized by the Ministry of Education in Bulgaria. The school issues certificates recognized in Bulgaria so that students do not need to take examinations after their return in Bulgaria. The school is thankful to the ambassador in Cyprus Petar Vodenski who made that possible.

From 2009 students can take part in different extracurricular activities in the school. They can perform during traditional celebrations, learn traditional dances, paintings and attend the workshop.
